Happy Camper
today is the first day
in forever that
it's not raining and cold
i've been planning this carving
for a while
will leave the face primitive
do some wood burning
on the "hair"
will most likely give her
a body at some point
sunshine....
carving...
happy camper

The Gift of Flight
i finally got around to finishing my
barn owl today.
this is the second of three trees
that i promised to honor by making
them a piece of art.
do we capture a spirit when we
create an effigy...their thoughts...
their dreams?
i hope by giving this tree wings
that it's spirit is given the
gift of flight...

Baby Steps
i've started a new project
a barn owl
this is just the roughing out stage
done entirely with my chainsaw
this is what i started with
i didn't have to sit with this one
the owl stared back at me
immediately
i can feel that i'm gaining better
control of my chainsaw
baby steps...

Wood Spirit
yesterday was the first day i played
with my chainsaw after a three week
lay about waiting for my broken toes
to heal. this is the first face i've ever
carved...trying for a wood spirit. i was
just happy to be able to be outside
working....and walking!

OUCH!
the good news:
someone brought me wood so i can
practice my chainsaw carving
the bad news:
i didn't jump quick enough when he pushed the
largest piece off his truck
seriously glad i was wearing my steel toe boots
hate to have seen what would have happened
without them

Food For My Soul
working out side
covered in sweat and sawdust
food for my soul
saved the part of my tree sculpture
that intimidates me the most for last
not my usual modus operandi
normally when intimidated i
attack that sh*t and get it over with
but...i haven't exactly been my
normal self lately....
my first attempt at roughing out a
head with a chainsaw
finished up with an angle grinder
all in all i'm pleased
got it looking the way i pictured
stained
tomorrow it will get a coat
of linseed oil and will be
attached to the tree
then given a day for the glue to set
think it will be done
but
we'll see...
