the promise of renewal....

winter has its own kind of beauty...
it's a time for showing ones bones.
i am much comforted by these silent sentries
around this place i call home.
the skeletal trees with their adornment of nests...
the butterfly bush under the bird feeder that
gives my little ones a sense of security...
the rattle of the dried leaves from the flowers
that some would have pulled by now
but i like to have them share my winters with me.

this desiccated queen annes lace reminds me of the
moon...with a galaxy of stars arcing outward. But
most importantly...it reminds me of renewal...
new life from the precious seeds clinging to its
heart....

a heart should always carry within itself
the promise of renewal...

I don't ever pull up the dead weeds and flowers, I love the brown sticks and pods, I just consider them winter flowers :)
I also love waking up in the early morning and looking out the window to see all the black tree shapes, like an abstract ink drawing. Seeing the beauty that winter has is the only way to deal with it!

We've been lucky this winter...it's been strangely warm. Yesterday it was 75 degrees....nice...but I hope it doesn't coax out my flower children. We really need some cold weather to keep the bugs in check. My house and porch have been taken over by lady bugs this year....I find them EVERYWHERE. I do like them and know they are beneficial but I like to draw the line at sharing my quarters with critters.

I too share your love of dried winter plants.... & I do see signs of these here in Charleston, but the weather is certainly confusing with these summer like temperatures. Not that I am complaining!
