Back To Center
the beginnings of a tree spirit
for my sculpture garden
her head carved from a cedar stump
the body a limb that broke on my
pecan tree last year
i've had to work on her between rains
as i don't have anywhere to work
out of the weather
just cover her with the tarp
to cut down on drying time
when wet
it's been a cold...wet...winter here
i've been holed up inside
reading
studying
it gladdens my heart to be able
to work outdoors again
meditative
healing
working my way back
to center

Finished
i finished this piece today
instead of burning and sanding
i used my razortip wood burner
to add shadows
i've got a new project in mind
but won't be able to get started
for another week
i'm looking forward to
experimenting with some
coloring and surface design
on wood

The Keeper of My Heart
"most people have only made
a dent in my memory
a little nick
but you..
you moved in
made yourself at home
and spread your arms to
make room for your
wingspan"
at the end of the day
to be spent
and covered in sawdust
soothes my soul
this...
will be
the keeper of
my
heart

The Path of Knowing
giselle hicks ceramics
seven gifts:
...the courage to sit and wait
...the curiosity to open closed doors and explore
what is behind them
...the ability to listen to yourself
...an appreciation for the experience of all life
...a respect for the power of your imagination
...the compassion to try to embrace all things with
unconditional acceptance
...an awe for the path of knowing
