home dwells within my heart...
it's a feeling...a memory...a sound...sometimes a smell
it can be someone you know
and the memory of their laugh
it can be that feeling rising in your throat
when you hug someone you haven't seen in a while
or that sense of belonging you get
when you make a new acquaintance you didn't know you missed"

for lola
i still amazes me that with the internet we can now reach across the world and touch people we would have never met. what a wonderful way to meet new friends and connect with kindred souls. lola recently left a comment on my blog about her own loss of a loved one. when i read this today, lola, i thought of you:this being human is a guest house.
every morning a new arrival.
a joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes as an
unexpected visitor.
welcome and entertain them all!
even if they're a crowd of sorrows, who sweep
your house empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
he may be clearing you out for some new delight.

seed planter
this old seed planter is at a farm that's for sale near my home. i would have flowers planted in it if it were mine.
earth teach me to forget myself as melted snow forgets its life. earth teach me resignation as the leaves which die in the fall. earth teach me courage as the tree which stands all alone. earth teach me regeneration as the seed which rises in the spring. - william alexander
